Smuggling, counterfeiting and other illicit practices: Cameroon loses over CFAF 100 billion a year
The information was revealed on Thursday April 24, 2025 during the Cabinet meeting at the Immeuble Etoile in Yaoundé. The Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Joseph DION NGUTE, deplored the fact that, “in commercial areas, consumer complaints are multiplying and often concern speculative behavior, the alteration of measuring instruments and several other facts that do not guarantee the conformity of prices or products purchased”. This rampant phenomenon of fake building materials, fake wines, fake whisky, fake scales, fake official documents, etc., or a whole culture of fraud and counterfeiting, calls for ever-increasing vigilance.
