The new headquarters of the National Assembly named ‘Palais de Verre Paul BIYA’ in tribute to the Head of State
In recognition of his immense work since his accession to the Supreme Magistracy and his involvement in the successful completion of the project to build the new headquarters of the National Assembly, this parliamentary complex has been named after the President of the Republic, ‘Palais de Verre Paul BIYA’. The President was represented by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph DION NGUTE, at the ceremony on Friday 25 April 2025 in Yaoundé. It was also an opportunity to celebrate Cameroon-China cooperation. The christening name follows ‘deliberations in the form of consultations by the Bureau of the National Assembly’, according to an order of the President of the National Assembly signed on 11 January 2025.
Key figures
- - The building was inaugurated on 30 November 2024 by the President of the National Assembly, the Right Honourable CAVAYE YEGUIE DJIBRIL, in the presence of the Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, His Excellency ZHANG QINGWEI.
- The new National Assembly complex, which comprises a 15-storey building for administrative services (including basement and ground floor), another housing the hemicycle and a third serving as a banqueting hall, cost CFAF 55 billion, donated by the People's Republic of China.
- The infrastructure is built on 4 hectares of a total surface area of 9.5 hectares.
